Florida Nurse Vindicated in Patient Abuse Case.

Shedsie Exceus, RN, was arrested on February 14, 2023, for one count of felony abuse of the elderly based solely on the accusations of a former co-worker that she struck a patient. The Florida Department of Health filed an emergency suspension of Mrs. Exceus’s RN license in April 2023. Mrs. Exceus maintained her innocence throughout the two year ordeal. The criminal charge was dismissed, and her record is now expunged.

In February 2025, the case filed against Mrs. Exceus’s RN license proceeded to a formal hearing. The Administrative Law Judge recommended dismissing the Administrative Complaint and vacating the Emergency Suspension Order finding that “no historical facts have been established to support the alleged statutory and regulatory violations”.

Megan Blancho had represented Mrs. Exceus in the nurse license defense case since March 2023, and is pleased that Mrs. Exceus has been vindicated at a final hearing in the allegations of patient abuse.

Mrs. Exceus considers nursing to be a “calling from God” and has maintained her faith that she would be able to return to her nursing career.
